Reinhold Schmidt

Reinhold Schmidt, 95, West Fargo, N.D. died Thursday July 22, 2021 at Bethany Retirement Nursing Home, Fargo, N.D.

Reinhold was born March 31, 1926 on the Schmidt homestead farm in Frettim Township northwest of Lake Williams, N.D. to Mother Mary (Kassman) and Fred Schmidt.  Reinhold attended Frettim Township country school and completed 8 years of education.  He farmed with his father, Fred, until his passing in 1949.  Reinhold took over the farm at that time.  He married Verla Ziesch on June 7, 1951 and lived and farmed there until 2007. They had 3 children Delan, Sheryl, and James. Reinhold served on various committees including building committee at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Pettibone. He served various offices at that church for 56 years. Reinhold was Frettim Township Supervisor and clerk for 8 years, served on Robinson Fire Department and Robinson School board, Kidder County Shipping Association, Kidder County Farmers Union board.  For 32 years he was a Robinson Lion member and was proud of his 48 pins on his Lions' vest. When the farm was sold in 2007, Reinhold and Verla moved to West Fargo to live out their retirement.  Verla passed away on June 8, 2016 and Reinhold moved to Basic Care at Good Samaritan Living Center in Fargo.  Reinhold's biggest love and interest was his grandchildren and farming. Hobbies included fishing, woodworking and visiting friends and relatives.  

Preceding his death was his wife; mother and father; 5 sisters; and 1 brother.

Survivors include his children, Delan (Kathyryn) Schmidt, West Fargo, Sheryl (Bruce) Cochran Elm Creek, NE, James Schmidt Chaska, MN.; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Harry, Steele, N.D., 2 brothers-in-law, Robert (Delores) Ziesch, Pettibone N.D., and Delton Ziesch, Des Moines IA;  and sister-in-law, Karen Ziesch, Pettibone, N.D. 

Funeral Service – 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 26, 2021 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Pettibone, ND.

Visitation – One hour before the funeral at the church

Burial - Petersville Cemetery, Pettibone, N.D.
