Ray Herr Obituary

Raynard G. Herr, 88, of Jamestown, died at SMP Health – Ave Maria on April 3, 2023. Mr. Herr was born January 7, 1935 at Ashley, ND, to Gust and Alvina (Meidinger) Herr.

They moved to Aberdeen SD around 1940. He graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1953. Ray served with the US Air Force, from August 1953 to July 1957. Ray was united in marriage to Lillian Bauer in September of 1958 in Aberdeen, SD.  He served as a Radio Relay with the Federal Government, beginning with the Bureau of Indian Affairs (Aberdeen), Federal Aviation Administration (Bismarck), Bureau of Reclamation (Jamestown) and Western Area Power Administration (Jamestown). Ray retired December 31, 1995 as a Foreman 1, Electronic Equipment Technician with over 40 years of U.S. Government service.

He was a member of the Jamestown Elks Lodge, Jamestown Country Club, American Legion and the American Drum and Bugle Corps (1967-1977).  Ray also served as an Advisory Board member with the Salvation Army beginning in 1997.

Ray is survived by his wife, Lillian; two sons, Rod of Jamestown and Jeff (Jill) of Minneapolis, MN; three grandsons, Dylan, Mason and Adam; and one sister, Dorothy Cross (Jack) of Greencastle, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Bernice Borchard (Robert) of Mansfield, SD.

Memorial Service – 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 14, 2023 at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown with a luncheon to follow at the Vet’s club.
