Otto Schmidt Obituary

Otto Schmidt, 83, Medina, N.D. died Monday, November 18, 2002 at his home in rural Medina, N.D.

Otto was born August 22, 1919 near Streeter, North Dakota, the son of Ludwig and Katherina (Graf) Schmidt. He attended school in Streeter and Steele, N.D. Otto lived with his parents on a farm west of Streeter, later the family moved to a farm southwest of Medina in 1939.

He entered the United States Army on April 11, 1942 in Bismarck, N.D. and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was discharged on January 13, 1946 at Fort Lewis, Washington.

On October 24, 1946 wedding vows were exchanged by Otto Schmidt and Esther Wallbaum at the farm home of her parents. Esther and Otto moved to his parents' farm near Medina, N.D. In 1988, they moved to Esther's parents' farm southwest of Medina where their home has been since.

Otto was a member of the Medina Baptist Church and the Medina American Legion Adam Job Post.

Otto is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Esther Schmidt, of Medina, N.D.; two sons, Vergil (Raychel) Schmidt, of Red Deer, Canada; Errol (Kim) Schmidt, of Medina, N.D.; one grandson, Tanner Schmidt, of Mandan, N.D.; one granddaughter, Charis Schmidt, of Red Deer, Canada; three step grandchildren, Tonya, Chris, and Brandon, all of Medina, N.D.; three brothers, David (Alice) Schmidt, of Jamestown, N.D.; Art (Marvel) Schmidt, of Aurora, CO; Edmund (Reba) Schmidt, of Sioux City, IA; one sister, Cecelia Rivinius, of Streeter, N.D.; two sisters-in-law, Ella Schmidt, of Paynesville, MN; and Lydia Schmidt, of Jamestown, N.D. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Richard and Ephraim, and one sister Lea Schmidt.

Funeral Service: 1:30 P.M. - Saturday, November 23, 2002 at Medina Legion Hall, Medina, N.D., with Revs. James Dick and Vergil Schmidt officiating.

Prayer Service: 7:30 P.M. - Friday, November 22, 2002 at Eddy Funeral Home - Jamestown, N.D.

Visitation: Friday, Saturday, November 22, 2002 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, N.D.

Burial: Medina Cemetery - Medina, N.D.
