Marvin Zinke Obituary

Marvin Lars Zinke went to be with loved ones in heaven on October 24, 2021 at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown, North Dakota.  He was born on May 21, 1931 near Woodworth, ND to Frederick W. and Sarah (Hill) Zinke.  Marvin worked hard at a young age, driving a team of horses at harvest at age nine, herding sheep into the hills on his pony, walking long distances to work at nearby farms.  He was confirmed in the Lutheran church in Woodworth and graduated from Woodworth High School in 1950.

Marvin married Dorene Scheuffle on October 1, 1952 in Jamestown, ND.  They began their married life in Woodworth living on what was called the Robinson place.  Marvin worked on the family farm nearby along with his brothers.  The family moved to Jamestown later and he began working in the construction industry.  He eventually became a journeyman bricklayer.  Marvin was very proud of his work, all the things he helped to build and receiving his 50-year membership certificate in the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers in 2013.  He built two homes along with help from family and friends.

Marvin loved to garden, plant trees and be in his yard.  He could spend many hours a day outside.  He liked to hunt and raised his sons with a great love of

hunting.  He would come home from a long week’s work and think nothing of taking them out into the country on a hunting trip.  He supported his kids in their pastimes and activities by helping out any way he could.  His greatest joy was his family, and he was very proud of them.  Marvin had lots of patience and was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather.  He was a favorite among his many nieces and nephews.

Marvin is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dorene, children: Stuart (Kathy) Zinke, Jill (Bob) Larson, Meggen (Randy) Henke, and Chris Zinke; daughter-in-law, Dawn Zinke; grandchildren: Jennifer (Nic) Cheek, Alaina (Brett) Baragia, Matt (Sylvia) Zinke, Skye (Troy) Fingalson, Rex (Courtney) Larson, Logan Henke, Alexa Zinke and Erin Henke; sister, Shirley (Joe) Fields; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son, Clint Zinke; his parents; brothers: Irvin, Eugene and Alvin; sisters: Violet Bohl and Margie Bohl.

Memorial Service: 11 AM, Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Erik Weber officiating.
