Kelly Halvorson

Kelly James Halvorson, 61, of Jamestown, passed away on June 21, 2017, after a long, heroic struggle against debilitating illness.

Kelly was born on February 12, 1956, in Devils Lake, ND, the son of Richard and Dorothy (Rohde) Halvorson. His family moved to Jamestown in 1960, and he enrolled at the Anne Carlsen Center, earning his high school diploma in 1974. He attended Lake Region Jr. College and later transferred to the University of North Dakota where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Social Work. In 2007, he was inducted into the University of North Dakota Sports Hall of Fame.

Kelly was a passionate and devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Twins, Boston Celtics, and all teams fielded by Jamestown High School and the University of North Dakota.

Despite battling a variety of physical ailments his entire life, Kelly lived independently and on his own in Grand Forks and Jamestown until the very end of his life. His courage, resilience, and sense of humor in the face of lifelong adversities will always remain a humbling inspiration to his family and friends, who loved him so very, very much.

Kelly is survived by three sisters: Shari (Ray) Carr, Lynn (Tom) Wilhelm, and Shannon (Casey) Henderson, all of Jamestown; one brother, Scott Halvorson of New York, NY; three nephews, four nieces, four great nephews, two great nieces; and lifelong friends Peggy Dores of Grand Forks and Jim Johnson of Mayville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Dorothy Halvorson, of Jamestown.

Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Victory Lutheran Church, Jamestown. Family will be receiving friends on Friday, June 21, 2017 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Eddy Funeral Home.
