Andrew Johnson Obituary

     Andrew (Andy) Allen Johnson, 91, passed away peacefully at his home in Jamestown, North Dakota, on June 25, 2022. Andrew was born on July 8, 1930 in Roundtop Township, Stutsman County, North Dakota. He attended a one room school along with his siblings before moving to Jamestown and continuing his education at Jamestown High School. He was the youngest child of eight born to Erick and Millie (Norby) Johnson.

     Andrew served in the United States Navy from October 30, 1950 through August 25, 1954 during the Korean War and spent time on the U.S.S. Oriskany CV-34 with the 6th Fleet in the Mediterranean Sea and with Task Force 77-Korea. He was proud of his military service and continued to enjoy the company of other Veterans thoughout his life. He was a Life Member of VFW Post 760 and was also proud to have served as Commander for a few years.

     While on a military leave and home for a visit he was set up on a blind date by friends. That evening he met the Ardis Wutzke, the woman who would become his wife. Together they would go on to raise three children. They were married for 63 years until her death.

     Work started at a young age for Andrew. He worked a large variety of jobs before settling into a permanent position with the Northern Pacific Railroad, later to become the Burlington Northern Railroad. Andrew enjoyed hunting and was a skilled mechanic. After retirement in 1990 he had more time to spend on his favorite hobby which was fixing and tinkering on vehicles for family and friends. he also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

     Andrew is survived by his children Michael (Kara) Johnson, Minnesota, Craig (Eiko) Johnson of California and Sandra Johnson of Jamestown. He is also survived by his grandchildren Tressa (T.C.) Davis, Tyson (Tracy) Johnson, Tali (Jonathan) Biersbach, Amanda (Terry) Chadwick-Hollinshead, Kristi (Mason) Krumwiede, and Brandon Chadwick. He was blessed with 18 great grandchildren, Thea and Tatum Davis, Sven, Penny and Mabel Johnson, Kit and Shay Biersbach, Alexa Chadwick, Taya and Easton Hollinshead, Kaydence, Kayleigh, Karson, Karter, Kaden and Kamron Krumwiede, Paislee Iverson and Brylee Chadwick.

     Andrew was proceeded in death by his wife, Ardis Johnson, parents Erick and Millie Johnson, siblings Grace Felton, Irene Moni, Ted Johnson, Emma Johnson, Mayme Buschbacher, Ralph Johnson, and Erick Johnson and great grandson Ethan Chadwick.

     Visitation will be held at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, on Wednesday June 29 from 4:00-7:00 PM. Services will be held Thursday June 30 at 2:00 PM at Eddy Funeral Home Chapel with interment at Highland Home Cemetery to follow. The family would like to suggest any Memorial Contributions be sent to North Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch.
