He received his education at Glen Township schools in LaMoure County and Manns Township schools in Stutsman County. He farmed with his father in Manns Township until his marriage to Karol Schrader, daughter of Henry and Bea Schrader, on June 5, 1959. They moved to Medina, where Allen purchased a gravel truck and contracted with Zontelli Construction during the building of I-94 between Jamestown and Medina. In 1960, they moved to Adrian and later purchased the family farm from his parents, where they lived and raised their children. Allen was currently farming with his son Jay, and grandsons Adam and Nick Wieland. Family was very important to Allen, especially his grandchildren. He spent quality time teaching and supporting them, attending sporting and school events. He was always there for his family, but was also known for helping anyone in the community. He enjoyed farm life, and farming with his son and grandsons was very special to him. The famous poem, "God Made a Farmer" by Paul Harvey was a mirror image of the life Allen led throughout his life. Allen also enjoyed classic cars, and cherished his 1957 Ford Retractable, which he drove in area parades every summer. He always enjoyed visiting friends at the Elevators and Farmers' Café in Dickey. He was very active in the community, serving on area boards and organizations. He attended the Church of God Seventh Day, Alfred. He is survived by his wife, Karol, Montpelier, ND; son, Jay Schlenker, Montpelier, ND; daughter, Kim (Dave) Wieland, Rogers, ND; grandchildren, Jacob Schlenker and Adam, Nicholas, and Samantha Wieland; brothers, Elroy Schlenker, Adrian, Roland (Judy)Schlenker, Jamestown; two sisters-in-law, Sharon Knispel, Adrian, Sandi (Sam) Smith, Minneota, MN, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
