William Mcmillan

William McMillan, 94, Jamestown, ND, formerly of Fordville and Grafton, ND, died Friday, March 29, 2013 at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.
William Wallace McMillan was born March 16, 1919 on the family farm near Fordville, ND. He was the son of Arthur Smith Livingston and Helen (Ratcliffe) McMillan. He was raised on the family farm and attended school in Fordville, graduating from Fordville High School in 1937. He attended Jamestown College, graduating in 1941 with a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry. He then moved to Bismarck, ND where he worked for the State Laboratories Department.
On May 17, 1943, he married Floy Eleanor Stough at Jamestown, ND. In December of that year he volunteered for the United States Army. He served as a combat medic in Germany with the 52nd Armored Infantry Battalion of the 9th Armored Division. Following his discharge in 1946, he worked for the North Dakota Research Foundation in Grand Forks, ND. In 1948, he began farming with his brothers near Fordville. In 1961, he began working in the lab at the Borden potato processing plant in Grafton. In 1963, he and his family moved to Grafton. He later became manager of the Borden plant. He remained in that position until his retirement in 1979.
William belonged to the Federated Church where he served as an elder. He also served as Moderator of the Presbytery of the Northern Plains in 1989. Over the years, he was member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and was a continuous member of the American Legion.
William and Floy moved to the Heritage Center in Jamestown in 2005. They joined the United Presbyterian Church.
William's beloved wife of over 65 years died in August of 2008. Those who knew William were touched by his strong Christian faith, integrity, desire to serve others and his deep love of family. Although he pursued other vocations, his heart remained forever on the family farm in Fordville.
He is survived by his daughters: Kathryn (Max) Dyba, Miles City, MT; Margery (James) Michael, Jamestown, ND; his son, William K. (Theresa) McMillan, Jamestown, ND; 10 grandchildren: Patrick (Caron) Plowman, William (Rosie) Plowman, Terry (Corliss) Plowman, Andrew (Kara) Plowman, Michael (Haley) Richardson, Kathryn (Jordon) Elbert, Robert (Stephanie) McMillan, James McMillan, Elizabeth McMillan and Melissa McMillan;and 6 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by nephews Jon (Jeannen) McMillan and Lynn (Joyce) Overboe, and nieces Jeanne Kiel and Betty McMillan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his brothers, Keith McMillan and A. Lynn (Louise) McMillan, and sister, Helen (Edwin) Overboe and one nephew, Gary McMillan.

Funeral - 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 27, 2013 at the United Presbyterian Church, Jamestown ND.
Prayer Service - 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 26th, 2013 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel.
Interment - Oak Grove Cemetery, Fordville, ND at a later date.
