Wilfred Mehlhoff

Wilfred C. Mehlhoff, 84, of Jamestown, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2025, surrounded by family at Sanford Health Medical Center.

Wilfred was born on October 3, 1940, in New Rockford, ND, to John and Goldie (Hazer) Mehlhoff. He attended a one-room country school in Paris Township through eighth grade before graduating from Woodworth High School in 1958. On August 28, 1959, he married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn E. Stoppleworth, at the American Lutheran Church in Woodworth, ND.

Wilfred began his career with various jobs before joining Greenwood Plumbing and Heating in 1966, where he worked for 32 years, earning his Journeyman and Master Plumber certifications. In 1998, he and Evelyn moved to Redding, CA, where he worked at Mike Murray Plumbing and Fire until an injury ended his career. He returned to Jamestown in 2006. Wilfred cherished spending time with his grandchildren, woodworking, cheering for University of Jamestown and Jamestown High School sports, and building models.

He is survived by his daughters, Pamela Watters (Dan) of Jamestown, ND, Lisa Wutzke (Jeff) of Redding, CA, and Corinna Rowell (Joseph) of Jamestown, ND; his brother, Loren Mehlhoff (Kim) of Fargo, ND; and sisters Teresa Backer of Durango, AZ, Kathryn Mettler (Albert) of Bismarck, ND, and Edith Gould (Tom) of Jamestown, ND. Wilfred was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn Mehlhoff; sister, Sylvia; and brother, John.

A celebration of life will be held at Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown, ND, on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at 4:00 p.m., with visitation from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. All are warmly invited to join the family afterward for coffee, light snacks, and shared memories at the James River Senior Center. Burial will be at Gem Cemetery in Woodworth, ND.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the James River Senior Center or Gem Cemetery in Woodworth, ND, in Wilfred’s memory.
