Wilfred "Sonny" Loyd Johnson, 81, Montpelier, North Dakota died Thursday, May 15, 2014 at his home under hospice care.

Wilfred Johnson was born August 11, 1932 near Nortonville, North Dakota to Walter and Alice (Barnick) Johnson. Sonny graduated from Nortonville High School and attended NDSSS, Wahpeton, North Dakota. He married Mary Sellers on September 25, 1951. Sonny married Peggy Borg Hansen on June 8, 1972. He actively farmed most of his life in Stutsman & LaMoure Counties. On the side he did many different jobs during his life, custom combining in his younger years, working with his parents at the Commodity Warehouse, bartending, and plumbing. Sonny enjoyed fishing and hunting moose in Canada and elk hunting in Wyoming with his son, Pat. The last seven years, all of the family came together to spend the time hunting deer. He took great pride and had a great love for his registered paint horses. He loved and joined in many trail rides and helped many farmers with cattle roundups. He enjoyed bowling & playing pool, winning many many trophies in both. He belonged to the Montpelier Buffalo Club. He recently received his 60 year pin from the Eagles Club in Jamestown. Playing cards ?.competitive and playing until just a week ago. Sonny was always willing to help someone, enjoying cocktails and conversation with his many friends at many places.

He is survived by wife, Peggy, Montpelier, ND; three sons, Wayne (Mary) Johnson, Brookeville, MD, Michael Hansen, Montpelier, ND, Bryan Johnson, Montpelier, ND; five daughters, Marilyn (Timothy) Waddington, Yakima, WA, Terri (Hy) Schlieve, Drayton, ND, Susan (Steve) Roemmich, Spiritwood, ND, Jeanie (Raymond) Stahl, Gwinner, ND, Melanie Hansen, Montpelier, ND; 27 grandchildren and 48 great grand children; one sister, Dolores (Jim Holman) Bagan, Breckenridge, ND; brothers-in-law, Ken (Jerry) Borg, Ray (Lil) Borg, Dick (Barbie) Borg; sister-in-law, Barbara (Lowell) Komrosky, all of Valley City, ND; Spud, his trusty old horse and his dog, Annie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sons, Patrick Hansen, James Hansen, Alan Johnson, grandson, Quinn Hansen, great granddaughter, Lucy Hashbarger, brother, Jerald, sister, Darlene Jernigan, infant sister, Charlotte and sister-in-law, Ann Johnson.
