Virgil Rott, 72, Jamestown, ND, formerly of Nortonville, ND, died Monday, September 10, 2007 at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown, ND.
Virgil Rott was born January 25, 1935 on the family farm near Fredonia, ND the son of Sam R. and Maggie (Herman) Rott. He moved with his family to a farm northwest of Nortonville, ND and attended the Kennison Township School and Nortonville High School, graduating in 1954. On January 16, 1955, he married Shirley Hollingsworth and they settled on the family farm in Nortonville, ND where they lived, farmed and raised cattle. Virgil was one of the first farmers in North Dakota to use a center pivot irrigation system. In 1988, they moved to Jamestown, ND where he had a wood shop and enjoyed woodworking every day.
Virgil was a member of the United Methodist Church of Nortonville.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley; 6 children: Dwight (Cindy) Rott, Dawson, ND; Laura Rott, Jamestown, ND; Leland (Deb) Rott, Nortonville, ND; Linda (Calvin) Steffes, LaMoure, ND; Julie Brady, Jamestown, ND; Neil (Svitlana) Rott, Buchanan, ND; 7 grandchildren: Wade Dittus, Kelly and Keith Steffes, Lisa Stahlert, Renee and Lucas Brady and Jason Rott; 1 great-grandchild and a brother, Arlon Rott, Nortonville, ND;
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral - 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 14, 2007 at the United Methodist Church, Nortonville, ND with Reverend Wayne McKirdy officiating.
Prayer Service - 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 13, 2007 at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, ND
Visitation - 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 13, 2007 at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, ND
Interment - Nortonville Cemetery, Nortonville, ND
