Thilmer Roemmich

Thilmer Roemmich, 84, passed away on May 21, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family after a life defined by faith, hard work, devotion, and kindness.

Thilmer was born on September 4, 1941, in Tappen, North Dakota, to Emil and Bertha (Pfaff) Roemmich. He was raised in Tappen and later earned his GED. In 1959, he proudly enlisted in the United States Army and served his country until 1962. Following his military service, he returned to North Dakota and began farming in the Jamestown area — a calling that remained close to his heart throughout his life.

On October 4, 1984, Thilmer married Susan Landers. Together they united their families and shared 42 years building a life centered around faith, family, and the farm he loved so dearly.

A farmer at heart, Thilmer found his greatest peace tending to chores, milking cows, caring for the land and his horses, fixing whatever needed repair, or simply spending time outdoors. He also spent many years driving truck and was known for his reliability, strong work ethic, and willingness to do whatever was needed. Though he eventually retired, those who knew him understood that a farmer never truly retires. He continued caring for the farm and keeping up with the daily work that needed to be done, and over the years he also took on a variety of other jobs that kept him active, busy, and connected to the people around him.

Thilmer’s faith and devotion to God guided the way he lived and cared for others. He appreciated life’s simple pleasures — especially coffee and conversation with friends, time spent with family, and his love for sweets and treats whenever he could indulge. He valued fellowship, hard work, and the quiet joys found in everyday life.

Of all the things he loved most, family came first and he treasured the time spent with them. His greatest joy came when the grandchildren and great-grandchildren arrived and the farm became a place filled with laughter, memories, and love.

Thilmer will be remembered for his patience, kindness, humility, and hardworking spirit. Even in his final days, while battling illness, his thoughts remained with the farm chores that needed to be done and the well-being of the family he loved so deeply. That selflessness and quiet strength were at the center of who he was.

He is survived by his wife, Susan; children Clarissa Roemmich (Ron Morlock), Audrey (Tom) Larson, Candace Roemmich (Mike Netz), April (Zach) Toppenberg, and Brandon (Britt) Roemmich; 15 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brother Marvin (Karen) Roemmich; sister Viona (David) Gienger; along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Violet Moreland; brother Darold Roemmich; and infant son Peter, whom he never had the chance to hold but carried deeply in his heart.

Though his absence leaves a tremendous void, the values he lived by — faith, hard work, love of family, and dedication to others — will continue through the generations he leaves behind.

Visitation/Prayer Service: 3:00 - 7:00 PM, Thursday, June 18, 2026 at Eddy Funeral Home

Burial: North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
