Shirley Ann Helen (Otto) Olsvig passed away peacefully with family present and under the care of JRMC hospice the morning of May 24, 2025 at Eventide Nursing home.
She was born October 25, 1930 at home near Lake Williams, ND to Theobold (Dave) and Martha (Miller) Otto. She attended country school until her parents moved in the early 1940’s to Jamestown where she attended Franklin elementary and Jamestown High school and graduated in 1949.
She worked at Scotts Five and Dime store and both the Grand and Star Theaters in Jamestown. She Married Russell J. Olsvig April 28, 1955 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They had lived in various places in Michigan, Illinois, Minnesota, and Colorado due to Russ being an Air Traffic controller. After Russ’s passing, Shirley moved back to Jamestown, ND to be closer to her daughter Jennifer. She loved being a wife and mother to her three children. She loved to bake, especially homemade bread. The house always had the smell of something she had baked. She also loved to garden and can. Her faith in God was very important to her. She made sure her children were brought up knowing the love of God. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Jamestown.
Shirley is survived by her son and daughter in law, Steven and Chiree Olsvig, Wheat Ridge, Colorado and daughter and son in law Jennifer and Daniel Kapp, Jamestown, ND. Six grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren: Kileen Bilstad (Emma, Remi and Maci), Lakeland, Florida. Jared and Ally Jones (Lilly and Aksel), Fountain, Colorado, Dustin and Alicia Olsvig (Wyatt and Mary), Gunnison, Colorado, Diana and Kevin Cothern (Violet and Aubrey) Wheat ridge Colorado. Megan and Chandler Trout, Motley Minnesota, Hannah Kapp, Jamestown, North Dakota. Sister and brother-in-law, Nadine and Larry Readel, Jamestown, North Dakota and sister-in-law Jeannie Otto, Meridian, Idaho. Special longtime friend, Roseann Farrell. Two honorary grandchildren, Julie Nelson and Jamie Nelson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Russell, daughter and son-in-law Cheryl and Robert Jones, two brothers, Karron and Roger Otto.
Funeral Service – 10:30 am, Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND with Pastor Eric Weber Officiating.
Visitation – 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Monday, June 2, 2025 at Eddy Funeral Home.
Burial – Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, ND.
