Sharon Lee Spiekermeier (Rue) was born on April 11, 1952 to Thomas and Signe (Anderson) Rue in Valley City, ND. She was the baby sister to eight siblings: Dennis, Charles, Charlene, James, Thomas Jr., June and Joan (twins), and MaryAnn. The family farmed in rural Kathryn until the mid-1950’s when they moved into Kathryn. Sharon graduated from Kathryn High School in 1970.
Sharon married Bill Bowen September 5, 1970. They were married for 27 years. She was a loving and caring mother to 4 rowdy boys (Uff Da) while working full time at various occupations. Whatever job Sharon was working at, she excelled. She had a great time making lefse, playing cards, drinking lots of coffee and just generally being a good Norwegian.
August 12, 1999, Sharon married Mike Spiekermeier and gained three step-children. They made their home on Mike’s family farm in rural Sheldon. She and Mike traveled some, but what they loved most was having family visit them at the farm. She especially loved all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The laughter and activity of her children and grandchildren/great-grandchildren was her greatest source of happiness.
Sharon retired from Knecht Insurance, a position she truly loved. Her clients were very important to her and serving them was one of her joys in life. Her work at Knecht Insurance and faithfulness to Our Lady of the Scapular Catholic Church in Sheldon gained her many warm friendships in the community.
Saturday, December 29, 2018, while her family serenaded her with the great hymns of the Christian faith, Sharon slipped away. She is survived by her loving husband, Mike Spiekermeier, her sons; Billy (Laurie) Bowen, Jason (Renee) Bowen, Joshua (Robin) Bowen, and Matthew (Bonnie) Bowen; step-children; Kristina (Norm) Dick, Jody (Jason) Ball, and Michael Spiekermeier. Two siblings, Thomas Rue and MaryAnn Brown and many nephews and nieces. She is also survived by her 16 grandchildren: Amanda, Nick, Adam, Gage, Logan, Hannah, Parker, Neveah, Josiah, Cheyenne, Calyn, Konnor, Allison, Amber, Austin, and Rebekah, and 5 great-grandchildren: Jayden, Lyliah, Lyrik, Jerzey, and Abram.
She is preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
