Sadie Sargent

March 5, 1916 — July 30, 2012

Sadie Sargent, 96, Knife River Care Center, Beulah, ND and formerly of Woodworth and Jamestown, was called to her Lord and Savior on Monday, July 30, 2012 with her family by her side. Sadie Muriel Borg was born March 5, 1916 to John and Anna (Kjelland) Borg at Valley City, ND.

Sadie attended country school and graduated as Valedictorian from Sanborn High School. She graduated from Jamestown College with a teaching certificate and taught school at Erie, Page, Grafton and Hebron for seven years before moving to California to work for North American Aviation during World War II. Sadie married Clement Sargent on June 4, 1944 at Inglewood, CA. In 1946 they returned to North Dakota to begin farming and settled at Woodworth after living a year near Fort Ransom. Clement died in 1966.

Sadie always loved children. She and Clem had seven children, including two sets of twins. Sadie taught country school in Conklin Township until 1952 and then taught at Woodworth for 25 years, until her retirement in 1983. She was a gifted teacher; many students in her classroom were inspired by Sadie to become teachers. Her calm manner, kind smile and ability to teach every child provided her students with the confidence to succeed.

Faith in Christ was Sadie?s foundation. She lived her life for others, always giving of her time and talents to help those in need. Sadie was recognized as Volunteer of the Year at Jamestown Hospital for giving of her time generously, providing telecare services, staffing the gift shop, serving as President of the Hospital Auxiliary, and helping with the Rock-a-bye Baby program. She was an active member of St. John?s Lutheran Church in Jamestown, taking communion to those who were homebound and in nursing homes, serving as the President of WELCA, singing in the church choir and serving the church in many other ways.

Sadie loved her family and faithfully encouraged and prayed for them. Instilling her faith and love for others into her children and grandchildren, she was honored as a finalist for North Dakota Mother of the Year. Sadie had an adventurous spirit; she loved to travel with family and friends, taking many trips to places including the Holy Land, Europe and all across North America. Sadie was also a very talented artist and shared her paintings with each member of her family.

Sadie is survived by her children Lynda (Edward) Greer, Sun City West, AZ; Sandra (Jerry) Kleinknecht, Aberdeen, SD; Jonathan Sargent, Costa Mesa, CA; Marlene Odenbach, Woodworth, ND; Rodney (Debra) Sargent, Hazen, ND; Royal (Carole) Sargent and Dale (Brenda) Sargent, both of Beulah, ND. Sisters Alma (Dick) Hager, Valley City, ND; Ruth (Marshall) Wilson, Avon Lake, OH; fourteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, six brothers, four sisters, and one son-in-law, Gene Odenbach.
