Robert (Bob) Salting, age 86, of Jamestown, died Sunday, May 25 2014. Bob was born in Jamestown on October 19, 1927 to Ernest and Gertrude (Gulickson) Salting. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1945 then enlisted in the Navy, serving 13 months on Guam and Saipan. He went to Jamestown College where he met his future wife, Maralyn Richter of New Rockford, ND. He married Maralyn in June, 1952.
In June 1949, he went to work in train service for the Northern Pacific, later the Burlington Northern Railroad, and retired in 1988. In retirement, he was active as a volunteer for the Stutsman County Memorial Museum, and later as a volunteer archivist at the Raugust Library of University of Jamestown. He was an active member of Sons Of Norway and enjoyed golf.
Bob is survived by his wife, Maralyn, son Donald, of Bettendorf, Iowa, and daughter Donelle (Lynn) Richmond, of Walcott, North Dakota.
In lieu of flowers, Bob requests that memorials be donated to Raugust Library at University of Jamestown, and to Jamestown Regional Medical Center Hospice Care.
No Memorial Service to be held.
Family will be receiving friends: 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, May 28 at Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, North Dakota.
