Robert A. Anderson, 90, of Jamestown, ND, passed away Friday, May 30, 2025 at Eventide, Jamestown.
Bob was born February 3, 1935, in Jamestown, the son of Russell Orville and Bernice Ione (Janes) Anderson. His parents moved to the family farm in Windsor Township when Bob was five years old. Bob attended public schools and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1953. While in HS, he was active in sports and played linebacker for the Blue Jays. After high school, he attended UND for a period before entering the US Army in 1955. He was stationed at Fort Huachuca, AZ as a radar technician. After his military service, he returned to Jamestown and soon met his future wife (Sharon Trautman) at the Stutsman County Fair. Sharon and Bob were married on Feb 7, 1958 and were together for the next 67 years.
Bob and Sharon had three children, all of whom Bob was especially proud of. Cheryl became a special needs educator, Greg an engineer, and Kelly a veterinarian. He drove countless miles to watch his grandchildren compete in sporting events and many other activities.
Bob worked at Seekins Booterie for 25 years and was well known as the “shoe guy” of Jamestown. After Seekins, he opened his own store in the mall named Anderson Foot Wear. In retirement, he often shared that the job he enjoyed the most was driving a bus for James River Transit giving rides for folks that needed special assistance.
Bob was an avid sports fan. He refereed high school basketball games for over ten years at area schools. He attended countless Blue Jay and Jimmy games, he never missed a Bison football game, or a Duke basketball game.
Bob was a well-known “horse guy” and he loved horse people. He and Sharon were leaders of the James River 4-H Horse Club for nearly 30 years, assisted with the Stutsman County Fair, assisted with the ND State Fair, he was an active member of the local Rodeo Club and a respected judge for dozens of area horse shows. In the horse game, he was a mentor to many.
He was very difficult to beat in a pinochle card game. He tried his hand at remote radio-controlled drones as part of the Buffalo City Radio Controlled Flying Squadron, let’s just say he was much better as a pinochle player.
Bob and Sharon spent fifteen winters in Mesa AZ and Bob could sometimes be nicknamed the mayor of Agave Village.
Bob and Sharon have been lifelong members of the United Methodist Church.
Bob never met a stranger, he befriended all.
Robert is survived by his wife, Sharon Anderson, Jamestown; daughter, Cheryl (Ralph) Hansen, Lincoln, NE; son, Greg (Joyce) Anderson, Sioux Falls, SD; son, Kelly (Kathy) Anderson, Firth, NE; grandchildren, Seth (Jayme) Rowell, Bryce (Jess) Rowell, Blair (Jen) Anderson, Brad Anderson, Stephanie (Grant) Schuver, Ashley Anderson, and Michael Anderson; nine Great-grandchildren; brother, Gary (Linda) Anderson; and sister, Karen Charlston.
