Richard Hammer

Richard A. Hammer, 75, of Jamestown, ND, passed away Saturday evening, February 27, 2016, at Sanford Health, Fargo.

Richard A. Hammer was born September 2, 1940, near New Rockford, ND, the son of Joe and Margaret (Mullenberg) Hammer. He attended school in New Rockford. Richard married Frances Bachmeier on July 7, 1959, in New Rockford. He started working for Moline Construction when he was a young man. He worked at construction sites in New Rockford and Carrington before moving to Huron, SD, where he lived and worked for two years. They moved to Mitchell, SD, and then to Jamestown in the early 1960s where their home has been since. Richard continued working for Moline Construction and purchased the business in the early 1980s. At that time, he renamed the business to Moline Building Service. He constructed and renovated many commercial buildings in Jamestown before retiring at age 55.

Richard and Frances enjoyed spending time with friends and family at their lake home at Devils Lake, ND. His favorite pastimes were fishing, hunting, building and inventing things in his shop, reloading shells, and making fishing tackles. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was a charter member of the Jim River Drift Skippers snowmobile club, a member of the Elks, Eagles, Lions, and St. James Basilica.

Richard is survived by his wife, Frances Hammer; sons, Bill Hammer and Ray (Michelle) Hammer; daughter, Merri (Jeff) Mooridian; three grandchildren, Michael, Chelsi, and Bryce (Holly); two great-grandchildren, Maxten and Hugh; brother, David; four sisters, Monica, Jean, Ann, and Pat; and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 3, 2016, at St. John’s Catholic Church, New Rockford, ND, with Father Bernard Pfau officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Vigil: 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Interment: St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, New Rockford.
