Reuben Daniel Dammel, 94, Bismarck, ND, formerly of Medina, North Dakota died Sunday, July 17, 2011 at the Baptist Home in Bismarck, ND.
Reuben was born to Daniel and Katherine (Meidinger) Dammel on April 18, 1917, on the family farm his parents homesteaded, southwest of Medina. He lived and farmed on this farm all his life. Reuben was an avid farmer. He went to a one-room farm school for grades 1-8, two miles from home. He walked to school and walked home most of the time. He purchased the home farm from his parents in 1939, when his parents moved into Medina. Along with his farming and raising cattle, he managed a threshing crew for several years.
On June 20, 1947, Reuben married Ella Wahl in Jamestown. Ella passed away in 1988 from cancer. They had one daughter, Nancy Jean and she died in 1997 from cancer.
Reuben married Ann (Gross) Schneider on November 17, 1990. Reuben and Ann farmed until Reuben became ill in 2010. Through the years, they enjoyed trips to Hawaii, Alaska, and Branson, MO.
Reuben was the first deacon to distribute holy communion for Pastor Ricks. He served different terms on the church council. He was supervisor for St. Paul Township Board for 30 years. He was Clerk of School District No 4 and Precinct Committee Man for 15 years. Reuben was a member of St. Peters and later English Lutheran Church all his life. He was a lifetime Farmers Union member.
Reuben is survived by his wife, Ann, Bismarck; grandson, Dustin (Liz) Rensch, Fargo, ND and granddaughter, Renata (David) Buen, Minot, ND: great-granddaughter, Ella Jean Buen; son-in-law, Dick Rensch and friend, Bonnie Fyllesvold, Minot; sister-in-law, Arlene Dammel, Florida; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Arlyn and Sourey Schmidt, Medina; step-children, Kathy (Dale) Schneibel, Lincoln, ND, Ken (Donna) Schneider, Linton, ND, Kerry (Bruce) Unger, Glasgow, MT, Karla (Jim) Ludwig and Malinda (Mark) Weninger, both of Bismarck, ND, Myron (Lenae) Schneider and Michelle (Mike) Bosch, both of Linton; and 16 step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ella; parents; daughter, Nancy Jean; two brothers and five sisters.
