Randal Lee Johnson, 20, Jamestown, North Dakota, formerly of Bismarck, ND, died Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Fort George G Meade, Maryland.
Randal was born June 6, 1989 in Jamestown, ND, the son of Douglas and Cari (Musgrave) Johnson. He lived with his family in Pingree, ND until 2001 when the family moved to Bismarck, ND. Randal graduated from high school in 2007 from Century High School, Bismarck. He joined the US Air Force in 2007 and graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas in September 2007. He went on to the Defense Language Institute at the Presidio of Monterey, CA graduating from languate training in November 2008. He was stationed at Fort George G. Meade, MD, serving with the 94th Intelligence Squadron as a Cryptologic Linguist. He was promoted to the rank of Airman First Class in December 2008. While at Ford Meade, he supported American Armed Forces in OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM, by providing timely strategic and tactical information. On one instance, his efforts directly saved the lives of American Service members in Afghanistan. He was awarded the Air Force Achievement Medal for his actions in that event.
Randal kept everyone smiling and loved to make people laugh. He found the beauty in everyday life, he had a contagious smile and personality. He enjoyed listening to music, watching movies, hiking, site seeing, taking pictures, being with his friends, and spending time with his brothers. He strived to make his parents and loved ones proud.
Randal is survived by his parents, Doug and Cari Johnson, Jamestown; three brothers, Shawn Johnson, Pingree, Nolan Johnson and Chase Johnson, Jamestown; one nephew, Zaiden Johnson; grandparents, Ruth Johnson, Pingree and Alex and Sherry Musgrave, Jamestown; four uncles, Ralph Johnson, West Fargo, ND, Robert Johnson, Pingree, Steve (Kathleen) Johnson, Merrimack, NH and David Johnson, Pingree; three aunts, RuthAnn Yonts, Peterson, MN, Becky Benson, Pingree and Sarah Musgrave, Bismarck; and numerous cousins, great aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dallas Johnson and one aunt, Beverly (Johnson) Spelts.
