Peter Simonsen

Peter Kjer Simonsen, 100, Kensal, ND passed away Sunday, May 14, 2017 at Eventide Jamestown.

Peter Simonsen was born December 31, 1916 in Kensal, ND to Carl F. and Marie (Christensen) Simonsen. He attended and graduated from Kensal Public School. Peter worked on the family farm until he was called to serve his country. Peter left December 11, 1942 for the Army. While training, he broke his ankle and they sent him to police school, finishing his term being an MP in New Orleans, LA.

After the service, he returned to Kensal to help on the farm. On September 24, 1948, he married Georgie Ann Lange in Jamestown. He bought his own farm north of Kensal in Foster County. Pete loved farming, continuing until he was 92. He also loved carpenter work. He built wood kits for Sunday School and Bible School children. Careful what you asked for, as he would be out building it for you!

Pete was an avid hunter, whom only carried two shells for deer hunting, expecting to only use one. He loved teaching kids how to shoot and handle a gun properly. Reading was his favorite thing to do in his spare time.

Pete loved his grand kids, nieces and nephews and telling them old stories of his Army life and the “Dirty 30’s”.

Peter is survived by his wife Georgie; son Darci; granddaughter Maria, grandson Joshua (Tara) Simonsen; many nieces and nephews and brother-in-law Ronald Lange. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Alan, brothers Alton and Wendell Simonsen.

The family of Peter wishes to thank Eventide for the wonderful care and Jim Fandrich for his friendship with Peter at Eventide.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to Kensal United Methodist Community Sunday School.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, May 17 at Kensal United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Tuesday at Eddy Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Kensal Cemetery.
