Patrick Bergman left his earthly home on May 12, 2026, at the age of 77, and is now in the arms of Jesus in Heaven. He was born to Harold and Mary (Shockman) Bergman on December 17, 1948, in Jamestown, North Dakota.
Pat grew up on a farm near Dickey, ND with eleven other siblings, where faith, family, and hard work were deeply instilled in him. He loved Sundays, when his family would attend church and spend the afternoon playing with his many cousins from his extended Shockman family.
After high school, he served his country in the United States Navy for four years in both Washington D.C. and Iceland. After returning to Jamestown, he began his 35-year career with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad as a Train Engineer, where he took great pride in driving locomotives.
Pat married Lynnae Litt on November 9, 1974, and together they spent over four decades raising their children (April, Anthony, and Sarah), as well as adopting and raising their grandchildren (Zachary, Damian, and Domanic). Throughout the years, he taught them all the value of hard work, investing in relationships, and helping those in need.
His tremendous work ethic was evident to all who knew him, and he was extremely generous. He would drop everything to help family, friends, or anyone in need. People truly mattered to him, and he devoted his life to providing for and investing in them.
You cannot mention Pat without remembering his huge sense of humor. Jokes were his stock in trade, and he had a gift for bringing laughter into the room. His hobbies included anything to do with the outdoors, woodworking projects around the house, spending summers on the pontoon, watching 60 Minutes, and reading Time magazine.
He was a kind and warmhearted man who lived a life of humility and sacrifice, considering others more important than himself. Helping those less fortunate brought him genuine joy, especially stepping up to raise his grandchildren to adulthood.
He will be deeply missed as a father, grandfather, friend, mentor, and our role model of what a good man should be.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lynnae Bergman; his parents, Harold and Mary Bergman; and sister, Mary Margaret Bergman.
He is survived by his children: April Bergman, Anthony (Monica) Bergman, and Sarah (David) Cottrell; his grandchildren: Zachary (Tanisha) Bergman, Alyssa Logan, Damian Bergman, Domanic Bergman, Claire Cottrell, Cole Cottrell, Paul Bergman, and Caleb Cottrell; his great-grandchildren: Willow Kukert, Rayleah Bergman, Clark Bergman, and Bruce Bergman; and his siblings: James (Jan) Bergman, Francis (Deone) Bergman, David (Linda) Bergman, Louis (Julie) Bergman, Annette (David) Redmann, Harold Bergman, Rosemary (Tom) Cashman, Matt (Jennifer) Bergman, Joe (April) Bergman, and Cathy (Kurt) Brandenburg.
