Pat Keeton Hurley

February 28, 1934 — July 20, 2005

Pat Keeton Hurley, 71, Jamestown, ND died Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at his home in Jamestown.

Pat Keeton Hurley was born in Fairview, Montana on February 28, 1934 to Patrick and Joy Mohrherr. He was raised in Fairview, MT and Buford, ND and attended schools there. Keeton loved wildlife, camping, the mountains and the outdoors. As a younger man he loved to hunt. In his later years he enjoyed bird and squirrel watching. He also like to tell stories and jokes. He was interested in western lore and cowboy music. He made birdhouses and other wood projects for friends and loved ones. For most of his life, Keeton worked in the apiaries business. He loved bees and had extensive knowledge of them, their habitat, and of honey production. He often discussed the fact that he felt that spirituality existed everywhere in nature. Keeton was a good, loyal friend and a rugged individualist. On June 25, 1955, Keeton married the love of his life, Carolyn Welty. They resided in Trenton, ND for three years. They had two children, Kim Dudley Hurley and Carla Joy Hurley, both born in Williston, ND. The family then moved to Steele, ND where they lived for several years. In 1962, the family moved to Jamestown where they raised their family and lived until their retirement. They then moved to Casper, WY where they invested in real estate from 1996 to 2000. Then wanting to be near their precious son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren, they moved back to Jamestown in 2001.

Keeton is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Kim (Roxanne) Hurley, Jamestown, ND; three grandchildren, Jade (Josh) Wheeler, Nick Hurley, and Jake Hurley, all of Jamestown, ND; four sisters, Charlotte (Richard) Welty, Judith Hurley, Gail (Dean) Ferrell, and Linda (Richard) Helgeson; four brothers, Dennis (Yvonne) Hurley, Mike (Carol) Hurley, Jeff (Sandy) Hurley, and Kevin (Dixie) Hurley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Keeton was especially close to his brother, Jeff Hurley and his sister-in-law, Sandra. They kept in frequent contact. He was also very close to his sister, Charlotte Welty and his brother-in-law, Richard Welty. He and Richard had been friends since childhood. Keeton often reveled in telling stories about their escapades from younger years.

Keeton was preceded in death by his wife of almost 50 years, Carolyn; beloved daughter, Carla Hurley; and grandson, Tyler Hurley; parents; and infant brother, Haloran. He will be sorely missed.
