Norma M. Hust, of Tappen, ND, passed away at the age of 81 on October 4, 2015 at Eventide Jamestown, after a graceful fight with cancer. She left this earth surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.
Norma was born March 31, 1934 in Dawson, ND to Gustave and Caroline Geist. She was the oldest of three children. The family moved to Tappen, ND and this is where she would meet Harry Hust. At first they couldn't stand each other, having to deal with one another being in the same church confirmation class.
However, that quickly changed and Norma married the love of her life on September 26, 1952, in Tappen, ND. While Harry was in the Army, the young family lived in both El Paso , Texas and Salinas, California before returning to Tappen, ND, where they would raise their children.
Norma was a devoted woman who was so very proud of her family. Norma and Harry had five children together. The home in Tappen that we all now know today as 206 South Avenue was built in 1972 and is where Norma watched her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow and make so many memories. Norma was widowed in 1987, when Harry passed away suddenly from a heart attack.
Norma was known for her feisty sense of humor. She loved good food, good books, and socializing. She was very skilled at quilting, embroidery, and crocheting. She was an excellent cook, always taking everyone's requests for their favorite dishes at family gatherings. She had a wonderful smile with those Hust dimples that could light up a room.
Norma had an unwavering faith in God and has been a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Tappen, ND. She has always openly shared her foundation of faith with her family, reminding us to always take comfort that "it is all in God's plan".
Norma will be forever missed by all that knew and loved her. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to her family. Norma not only raised five children, but babysat her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as other children in town, and was a caregiver to her mother Caroline until she passed away in 2005.
Norma's family gave her great comfort and joy throughout her life here on earth. Her memory lives on in the hearts of her five children; Rodney and Glenda Hust, Larry and Debra Hust, Vernon and Mary Lou Hust, Michael and Sherry Hust, and LaShell (Hust) and James Motl; nine grandchildren, Jessica, Keith, Nathan, Crystal, Aaron, Shayla, Patricia, Elliott, and Marranda; eight great-grandchildren, Nicole, Brenden, Shelby, Kassidy, Jonathan, Christopher, Preston, and Reed; and her sister, Arlene Swenning.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Hust, parents, Gustave and Caroline Geist, brother, Darrold Geist, grandson, Nathan Hust, and great-grandchildren, Joshua and April Hust.
