Listen to Obituary

Neldamae Gladys Kalmbach Schlosser was born April 23, 1935 to John and Ella Drenth Kalmbach on a small farm North of Jud, ND. She passed away October 22, 2026, at 91 years of age. She was the second of four children. She grew up on a farm south of Jud. She attended a country school two miles Northwest of the farm for five years, at Bluebird Township Consolidated and from the 6th grade to Senior, she attended Jud Public School, graduating in 1953.

On a summer evening of 1951, Joe and a couple of his buddies attended a dance in Jud, a small-town orchestra, “The Teen Timers” were playing for the dance. Neldamae was the drummer. Joe’s friend made a bet that Joe wouldn’t ask the drummer for a dance. Well, he did and she danced with him and Joe won the bet and received his $5.00 bet, and that was how they met.

On June 17, 1953, she married Joe Schlosser in Transfiguration Church in Edgeley, ND. They started farming in the Edgeley vicinity. They purchased a farm in Ray Township in 1957. They were dairy farmers; she was Joe’s right hand man. She milked cows many times by herself, while he was in the field, helped with the field work and raised her family, until they retired from farming.

They joined the local square dance club and had many years enjoyed dancing and meeting many friends. They went to Nashville to the Grand Ole Opry square dance convention. Enroute to the convention, they spent a layover in Chicago Ohare Airport, where they danced a few rounds there.

After she retired from farming, she worked at the Manor St. Joseph from 1984 to 2016, when Joe became sick and she began her care taking talents caring for him.

She was always sewing something. Many of her creations were made by going to bed with a thought and sleeping on it and getting up the next day and start putting it together. Many times her creations didn’t come together just the way she wanted and you would find her sitting with a seam ripper in hand and tearing it apart and starting over. She made many quilts that were given to family members. She took a sweater apart and made the cutest mittens and scarf one winter. She was proud of her talent and always wanted to share with everyone.

She is survived by her eight children, two sons and six daughters; David (Pat) Schlosser, Edgeley, Debra (Marvin) Aberle, Beulah, ND, Doreen Aberle, Berlin, ND, Ramona (Dan) Wiest, Jamestown, ND, Bryan (Esther) Schlosser, Edgeley, Brenda (John) Madden, Union Center, WI, Sheila Buranen, Princeton, MN, Nichole (Christopher) Kleven, Clifford, ND.
