Myrle Phillip Lang, 68, Jamestown, North Dakota, died on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo from cancer.
Myrle was born July 16, 1939, in Kidder County, North Dakota, the son of Theodore and Louise (Gums) Lang. He attended elementary schools in Kidder and Logan Counties, graduating from Napoleon High School. He attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN for two years. Myrle enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1962 and was trained as a security air policeman. After the service, Myrle returned to North Dakota. He went to work at the ND State Penitentiary as a line guard for approximatley 4 1/2 years. Myrle married Eugenie (Genie) Eslinger, daughter of Art and Betty (Martel) Eslinger at Faith Lutheran Church in Bismarck on July 26, 1969.
Myrle attended The Mary College in Bismarck, graduating in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. He worked as various hospitals and health facilities throughout North Dakota before settling in Jamestown. Myrle worked at the North Dakota State Hospital for several years, retiring on December 31, 2001.
Myrle was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He served on the Worship Committee, the Global Mission Committee, and was active in the men's group. He was also an active member of the American Legion and the James Valley Chapter of Germans from Russia Heritage Society, and held various offices in both. His hobbies included reading and researching and Civil War and western frontier history.
He is survived by his wife, Eugenie, of Jamestown; two daughters, Gretchen Campbell, Jamestown and Tonya (Brant) Adams, Ontario, OH; one granddaughter, Hermione Adams; his father, Theodore Lang, Steele, ND; two brothers, Wallace (Susan) Lang, Larimore, ND and Arlyn Lang (Roberta Hovdestedt), Moorhead, MN and three sisters, Bernadine (Roger) Kuhn, Owatonna, MN, Theodora (William) Roth, Spring, TX and Erica (Al) Wangler, Bismarck, ND.
He was preceded in death by his mother; an infant brother, Wesley; and a granddaughter, Shelby Lynn Campbell.
Memorial Service: 10:30 AM, Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Jamestown with Pastor John Syvertson officiating.
Family Service: 7:00 PM, Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at the church.
No visitation is scheduled.
Burial: 1:00 PM, Thursday, April 3, 2008 at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, North Dakota.
Arrangements are with the Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown.
The family requests that limited flowers be sent due to allergies of the family.
