Michelle Marie Hintz was born May 23, 1965, to Edward and Janet Hintz, in Jamestown, ND. Michelle went to her heavenly home on July 7, 2026, at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND, surrounded by her loving husband and kids after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
From the moment Michelle was born you could tell she was going to be a natural caregiver and that family would be her biggest pride and joy in life. She joined her big brother Eddie whom she always looked up to and adored. Then her little brothers Jeff and Steve came along, and she was able to love up and mother them, probably longer than they wanted. After her little brothers came her best friend in life, a little sister Melissa. To finish off the Hintz crew came the bluest eyed little baby and someone she never let away from her heart Jason.
Michelle attended elementary school in Courtney, ND, and then graduated from Woodworth Public School in 1983. Go Mallards!! Michelle was also the arm wrestling champ beating all the boys in her class. During Michelle’s freshman year, a farm boy from Robinson, ND, caught her eye, and the rest was history. Kermit and Michelle were married on August 29, 1986. They would be celebrating their 40th Anniversary this year. After marriage the next step in life is where Michelle’s loving and caring nature shined. On September 18, 1988, they welcomed their first born Kayla Jan Louise. Next came the middle child, which her middle child never let her forget, on January 28, 1991, came Chantil LaRae. The family wasn’t complete until the baby boy, Wyatt Gerhard, joined them on January 12, 1995. Michelle always had more than enough love to give and welcomed 2 son-in-laws into the mix when her daughters married Chris Erdmann and Tony Wagner. Michelle was looking forward to the wedding of her son, to a beautiful new daughter-in-law Caitilin, who was Wyatt’s perfect fit.
The most prideful and treasured role that Michelle would have in life was becoming a grandma. There was nothing more special to Michelle than her grandkids, Lennon Jo, Riggs David, Leighton LaRae, Bryleigh MaRae, Rowen Christopher, and Kaysen Edward. There was plenty of spoiling and love that was shared when Grandma Michelle was around. “No” was not a word in Grandma Michelle’s vocabulary.
Michelle not only loved her own kids but welcomed many children into her home as she was a daycare provider for 18 years. The kids that walked through the doors were not just daycare kids, they were family and she carried each one of those kids and their families in her heart. Michelle went from caring for little kids, to the nursing home and cared for her elderly residents. She loved each and every resident she cared for and said caring for older people was not much different than caring for kids. Michelle was currently working at Downtown Dental and welcomed every individual with her infectious smile that will never be forgotten.
We could go on and on about Michelle and everything that we loved about her. Some of our favorite things that will never be forgotten are the smile that lit up any room she was in. Then there was the distinct Hintz laugh that carried across a room and you could always pinpoint where Michelle was. Michelle’s other greatest attribute is all the love she had to give; you never were able to leave or arrive without a hug and a “Love You”.
Michelle will be lovingly remembered by her husband Kermit, her kids Kayla (Chris) Erdmann, Chantil (Tony) Wagner, Wyatt (Caitlin) Guthmiller. Grandkids: Lennon, Riggs, and Leighton Wagner, Bryleigh, Rowen, and Kaysen Erdmann. Parents: Edward and Janet Hintz. Siblings: Eddie (Ronna) Hintz, Steve (Chantel Luna) Hintz, Jeff (Judi) Hintz, Melissa (Scott) Dockter. Mother – in – Law: Janice Guthmiller, Brother –In– Law: Bruce Guthmiller, Sisters– in–law: Barb (Steve) Hochhalter, Deb (Greg) Dollinger. Michelle also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends that all held a special place in her heart.
We are sure Michelle was greeted in heaven with lovingly open arms by her brother Jason and infant brother Christopher. Her grandparents Ernhold and Ruth Hintz and Richard and Annis Liberda. Her father-in-law Reinhold Guthmiller greeted her with a big hug and smile. Her second dad, David Soupir, also made sure Michelle was greeted with a smile to match hers.
We would like to give a big thank you to the staff at Sanford Health in Fargo for the care that they provided Michelle during her time at the hospital. A special thanks goes to her ICU nurse Megan and Dr. Kayla Estepp, as they always made sure Michelle was comfortable and loved.
Michelle was so loved, so we ask when you are thinking of her, and the days are hard, give a hug, share a smile, and say “Love You”.
