Mavis E. Roberts

Mavis Roberts, 93, Jamestown, died October 7, 2015 at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo.

Mavis Elaine (Sizer) Roberts was born July 3, 1922 at Brinsmade, ND the daughter of Charles and Leona (Ambuehl) Sizer. She attended Wimbledon High School. Mavis married Loren Roberts on May 21, 1946 in Webster, SD. They purchased the family farmstead in Lenton Township and lived and farmed there, where they raised their children. Mavis earned her Cosmetology degree at David's Hairdressing Academy, Jamestown. She worked at various jobs including Morck's Beauty Shop, Pred's and The Fair Store. From 1956 thru 1963 Mavis sang and played guitar and piano in the Roberts family band, The Rhythm Rangers, playing for dances and other events. Mavis was a Clerk for Lenton Township and assisted with elections for many years. In August, 2012 she became a resident of Eventide in Jamestown.

Mavis was a wonderful cook and enjoyed baking. She also liked to play cards, fish, read, garden, sew, work crossword puzzles, crochet, and do needlepoint. She loved music to include country, classical and gospel. Mavis adored her granddaughter, Tara, whom she provided daycare for from 1991 to 2002. Mavis had special pets thru the years, most recently her beloved calico cat, "Ms. Purr".

Mavis is survived by sons Bruce (Sharon) Shockley, Wimbledon; Randall Roberts, Jamestown; and Dwight (Jennifer) Roberts, Jamestown; a daughter, Rita (James) Morris, Jamestown; and her grand-daughter, Tara Morris, a student at NDSU, Fargo; a brother, Charles Sizer, Wimbledon; and a sister, Clara (Sorlie) Schrade, Jamestown. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mavis was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Loren Keith Roberts; a brother, Myron Sizer; and a sister, Lavern Nogosek.

Visitation will be from 1-2 pm followed by the funeral at 2 pm, Monday Oct. 12, at G. L. Riffe Chapel, Eventide in Jamestown. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Jamestown. Arrangements by Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown.
