Mary Elizabeth Taylor Muhs was born to Clarence James and Helen Alexandria Waldie Taylor on Sunday November 18, 1934, at Trinity Hospital in Jamestown, North Dakota, coming home to an older sister Mildred Ann. Mary grew up in Dickey, ND and attended Dickey School for 12 years, graduating in May 1952.
She met Robert Keith Muhs in 1950 and they were married in Dickey on September 18, 1952, at the Dickey Methodist Church, where she had attended her entire life.
Their marriage took them to several communities in ND; Walhalla, Dickey, Grand Forks, and Haynes. Mary and Bob spent two years in Washington, DC where Bob returned to active duty serving at Marine Corp Headquarters. They returned to ND and taught in Binford, ND after completing Bob’s active service. By that time, the family was complete with 6 children, 4 boys and 2 girls. The family moved to Towner, ND where they lived for 27 years and retired there. Mary and Bob moved to Jamestown, ND after retirement and after a few years moved to their beloved Taylor Farm near Dickey, ND.
Mary enthusiastically supported all of her children in all school and Church activities. Mary taught Sunday School and Bible study from High School until shortly before her death. Mary started a lifelong affiliation with Order of Eastern Star (60 years) and Rainbow for Girls (40 years), with her Rainbow affiliation starting when Mitzi and Susan became members. She became Mother Advisor in the local Towner Assembly and became more involved in Statewide assemblies eventually becoming State Mother Advisor for North Dakota. She expanded her “family” as all of her girls in Rainbow were considered her girls. She was appointed Supreme Deputy for the State of North Dakota, appointed Supreme Inspector, and elected to the Rainbow House of Gold eventually becoming the Supreme Worthy Advisor, International Order Rainbow for Girls.
Mary passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord on August 6, 2025. She is preceded in death by her parents Clarence James and Helen Alexandria, and her husband Bob.
