Mary Kulla died October 27, 2025, at SMP-Health, Ave Marie, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born December 16, 1929 at New Rockford to Robert and Esther (Johnson) Turner. She moved to many small communities in the area where her father ran elevators. In 1944 they moved to Kensal where she graduated from high school and attended the Business School in Fargo. She worked at the ASC office in Jamestown where to this day she could remember all the farmers and their families who came in to the office.
She married Hubert Kulla on May 8, 1954 where they made their home in Kensal and raised 4 children. Hubert died March 5, 2005. Mary stayed in her home in Kensal until September 28, 2023, and then moved to SMP – Assisted Living where she enjoyed her apartment and fellowship with the other residents. She moved into SMP – Ave Maria September 8, 2025. She managed very well even though she was nearly blind. She liked her Minnesota Twins and followed golf.
Mary and Hubert enjoyed many trips around the United States attending Hubert’s Navy Reunions. In 1985 she traveled to Sweden to visit family and in 2006 enjoyed a Mexican Riviera Cruise. She always enjoyed her trips visiting family. Christmas’s were spent at Grandma Mary’s house with all her Swedish traditions. Her cookies and caramel rolls were always a treat.
She is survived by her son Robb (Deone), Enderlin; Barb (Dean) Messmer, Four Corners, Wyoming; Judy Kulla, Jamestown; sister, Ruth (Dale) Hamilton, Larkspur, Colorado; sister-in-law’s, Sharon (Harry) Sherlock, Albuquerque, NM and Joanne (Richard) Turner, San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Tara (Dan) Haugen and Ryan Kulla; Steve (Shirley) Messmer and Jessica (Tony) Baumgartner; Brock (Brandy) Kiefel and Eric Klipfel. Great-grandchildren, Alex Anderson, Madison Cole and Devon Haugen; Adley and Zane Kulla; Jordan and Brendan Messmer; Emmrey, Easten, Westen and Sutten Baumgartner; Ayden, Tayven and Ryker Kiefel and many nieces and nephews that she so enjoyed.
Mary was preceded in death by Hubert, her parents, daughter, Renee Klipfel, brother’s Robert, Richard and Edgar and sister’s Audrey and Lorraine Grace who died in infancy, sisters-in-law, Eleanor and Lois.
Mary was a faithful servant and was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She enjoyed Chapel services at SMP after moving to Jamestown.
Memorial Service: 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 3, 2025 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kensal, ND, with Rev. Robert Hill officiating.
Burial: St. John’s Cemetery, Kensal, with lunch to follow at the church.
