Marvin Thorp, 84, Jamestown, North Dakota died Monday, May 5, 2014 at Jamestown Regional Medical Center, Jamestown, ND. Marvin Thorp was born June 18, 1929 in Jamestown, North Dakota to John and Margaret (Grasto) Thorp. He attended and graduated from Jamestown High School in1948. On September 11, 1948, he married Jacqueline McDonald in Jamestown. Marvin was a bricklayer for most of his working life. He learned the trade from Art Lee, whom he worked for many years. He also layed brick for Kyburz Construction of Aberdeen, SD and Moline Construction of Jamestown, North Dakota. In 1980, he went to work for the Burlington Northern Railroad for the Maintenance of Way Dept. until he retired in 1994. Marvin and his wife enjoyed many winter trips to warmer climates. He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed. Marvin was a Scout Master of Troop #163. He was also a hockey coach for Pee Wee, Bantam B and also assisted with Bantam A hockey. He enjoyed working with all the boys and they appreciated his leadership and humor. Marvin enjoyed hunting, fishing and raising tomatoes. He is survived by his wife Jacqueline "Jackie" Thorp, Jamestown; sister-in-law, LaVonne Thorp; three sons, John (Renee), Bozeman, MT, Eric, Glasgow, MT, Gerald (Pam), Andover, MN; two daughters, Ellen (Harry) Keiser, Greensburg, PA, Marian (David) Eckhardt, Crystal, MN; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, James, Donald and two brothers, Gordon and Marvin Erling.
Funeral Services: 3:00 PM, Friday, May 9, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND with Pastor Kristi, Weber, officiating.
Visitation: 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, May 8 at Eddy Funeral Chapel.
