Marvin Richard Bercier, Jamestown, ND, passed away at his home on May 17, 2014.
Marvin Bercier was born on September 27, 1961, in Belcourt, ND, to Joseph L. and Delema A. (Azure) Bercier. His parents were residing in Williston, ND when they made the decision to move to Jamestown, so Marvin could attend the Anne Carlsen School. Marvin attended school there until his graduation in 1980.
Marvin was a wheelchair basketball star in high school. He played with his team, the CC Riders and was nominated to the All American High School Basketball Team. Since Marvin was never one to even consider himself disabled, he would never accept the limitations of having wheels for legs. In his younger days, when he though no one was looking, he would flip his feet up into the air and walk across the floor on his hands as easily as someone with working legs would have. In his senior year of high school, he entered the American Diabetes Association Bike Ride, a 25 mile fundraiser. He wheeled the entire 25 miles and was seen sporting a very large grin at the finish line.
Marvin married Sherry Darling on February 17, 1983. They made their home in Jamestown and enjoyed spending time with Marvin's younger siblings. They were divorced in 1999. He later owned two dogs, Fluffy and Jiblet, who he loved very much. He spent a great deal of time with his nephews, Joseph Bercier and Shane Jacobson, teaching them many things.
Marvin was a man of many talents. He was a skilled artist, and his mind for creating games, characters and stories was always at work. He loved anything to do with Marvel superheroes, the colors pink and aqua, Mendota Springs, hot wings and cook-outs. He loved football, video games and movies. He was an Elvis Presley fanatic and owned most of his albums. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Jamestown. Marvin will be loved and missed by many, many people and the unique hole he is leaving in our hearts will never quite be filled. He was a beloved older brother to seven siblings, uncle, cousin, nephew and friend.
He was preceded in death by his father, a nephew, Casey Jones and a special aunt, Ruth Azure.
He is survived by his mother, siblings, Gaylene (Steve) Goodroad, Indianapolis, IN, Marlin Bercier, Gonvick, MN, Arlene Bercier, Phoenix, AZ, Dale (Amanda) Bercier, Jamestown, Deanna (Bryan) Jacobson, Jamestown, Melissa Jacobson, Jamestown and Bryan Bercier, Jamestown; 21 nieces and nephews; 6 great nieces and nephews and many cousins.
