Martin J. Drost, 86, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Monday, September 8, 2008 at his home in Jamestown.

Martin was born December 18, 1921 in Highspire, Pennsylvania, the son of Mike and Mary Drost. He served in the US Army from September 1942 to November 1945 when he was discharged with the rank of Staff Sargeant. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theatre ribbons and the World War II Victory Medal. After the army he lived in California and drove truck for Galland Linen Co. and Great French Bread. On October 15, 1965 Martin married Betty Stoehr. Upon Martin's retirement they moved to Jamestown. Betty died February 16, 1999.

He was a member of Ernest DeNault-Robertson Post 14 American Legion and Cecil Tracy Post 760 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Jamestown.

Martin is survived by a brother, Michael Drost, Colfax, CA; a sister, Mary Anderson, Penn Valley CA; two sisters-in-law, Carol Weber, Jamestown, and Donna Tompkins, Pingree, ND; three nephews, Terry Anderson and Michael Anderson, both of California, Joseph Anderson, Reno, NV; two nieces, Sharyn Bradley and Judy Matlock, both of Grass Valley, CA and devoted friends, John & Lois Althof and Jerry & LaVonne Krenzel, all of Jamestown.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and three brothers.

Memorial Service: 10:30 AM, Thursday, September 11, 2008 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, with Pastor Bryce Tahran officiating.

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, North Dakota.
