Maralyn Salting

On Tuesday, January 22, 2019, Maralyn (Richter) Salting passed away at the age of 90. Maralyn was born on August 26, 1928 in Brantford, ND to Otto and Marie (Wightman) Richter.

Maralyn grew up on the family farm and graduated from New Rockford High School in 1946. She then attended Jamestown College, where she met her husband, Robert Salting of Jamestown. They married on June 24, 1952 in Jamestown where they resided until their deaths.

Maralyn graduated in the first class of registered nurses from Jamestown College in 1950. Her nursing career included positions as a staff nurse and supervisor at Jamestown Hospital, Public Health Nurse for Jamestown, and head nurse for the alcoholism ward of North Dakota State Hospital. She also served as a nursing instructor at her alma mater, Jamestown College and taught Health Occupations for the Jamestown school system. During her nursing career Maralyn was very involved in the North Dakota Nurses Association, serving as its 25th president from 1979 to 1984. In retirement, she volunteered at the Stutsman County Museum and at Washington Elementary School. She was an active member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Jamestown.

Maralyn was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Ward Anderson and Kenneth Anderson, and husband Robert. She is survived by her son Donald (Julia) Salting in Davenport, IA, daughter Donelle Richmond in West Fargo, ND; sisters Lois Laber in Enderlin, ND and Ruth (Neil) Barkus in Jamestown, ND; and brother Charles (Neola) Richter in New Rockford, ND.

Maralyn’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Edgewood Senior Living Center in Jamestown for the care and love they gave Mom during the past 2 plus years.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 9th at 2:00 PM at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Jamestown. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the start of the service.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to Edgewood Senior Living Center in Jamestown or Jamestown Regional Medical Center Hospice.
