Lyle Kutz

October 16, 1926 — August 29, 2010

Lyle Gene Kutz, 83, Jamestown, North Dakota, passed away August 29, 2010 at Eventide at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center in Jamestown.

Lyle was born October 16, 1926 on a farm near Sykeston, ND, to Carl and Alyce (Smith) Kutz. He received his education in the Sykeston area. At the age of 16 he purchased a team of horses and started a hay hauling business. Lyle used his earnings to buy an accordian, and started a musical career in three separate bands.

He soon thereafter met the love of his life, Evelyn Schulz. They were married August 15, 1950 in Sykeston, and bought their first farm southwest of Sykeston.

In 1957, they moved to a farm eight miles southwest of Carrington. Lyle put his musical career aside to become more involved in farming, including beef and dairy cattle.

In 1967, the family moved to a farm southwest of Medina, continuing with dairy and grain. In 1986, Lyle retired to Jamestown, and became a member of Concordia Lutheran Church.

Lyle was a humble, tender hearted man, who cherished his wife and family. He enjoyed playing the accordian, watching the Lawrence Welk show, listening to country music, working in the yard, the beauty of horses, playing cards, watching Minnesota Twins baseball, and mom's cooking.

Lyle is survived by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn, Jamestown; three sons, Gary (Julie) Kutz, Carrington, Gregg Kutz and Gavin (Rhonda) Kutz, both of Jamestown; three daughters, Gayle (Durwin) Schmidt, Medina, ND, Gloriann (Rod) Finck, Colorado Springs, CO and Gina (Jason) Bowles, Hallock, MN; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Judy Kutz, New Rockford, ND.

He was preceded in death by a son, Glen; his parents; brother, Wallace; and sister-in-law, Marlys.
