Lyle A. Carpenter, 94, of rural Dickey, ND, passed away Wednesday evening, February 18, 2026 at Jamestown Regional Medical Center.
Lyle Alan Carpenter was born June 12, 1931, the third son of Herbert and Florence (Holbrook) Carpenter. He lived his whole life in Dickey, attending Dickey High School and Jamestown College. Alan met Joy Knudson while going to high school, and they were united in marriage on June 30, 1951. He served in the US Marine Corp. in 1952 and 1953 during the Korean Conflict. Alan was stationed in California and Japan before being honorably discharged with service medals received for National Defense, United Nations, and Korean Service. He returned to the family farm near Dickey to farm with his father and later son, until he retired.
Alan was one of the three original members of the Long Branch Boys, playing steel guitar, banjo, keyboard, and singing. He also enjoyed hunting fox in the winter and golfing in the summer. Most of all, Alan enjoyed attending and videoing his grandchildren’s events. In his later years, he used his computer to enlarge many photos for family and friends.
Alan is survived by his son, Bradley (Darla) Carpenter, Dickey; daughter, Tracy Ronald) Rode, Marion; four grandchildren, Brent Carpenter (Lacey), Jamestown, Isaac VanEnk, Marion, Jonas (Nicole) VanEnk, Edgeley, and Randi VanEnk (Justin), Valley City; five great-grandchildren, Chloe and Elliyah Carpenter, Jamestown, Kailey, Jaxon and Casen VanEnk, Edgeley; sister, Audrey (Joe) Baumgartner, Dickey; sisters-in-law, Gloria Carpenter, Dickey, Pricilla Carpenter, Tifton, GA, Elaine Knudson; and brothers-in-law, Darwin Knudson, Gary and Karen Knudson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Lana; his wife, Joy in 2015; and brothers, Darrel, Dean, Lawrence, and Steven.
Funeral Service – 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at Dickey Methodist Church, Dickey, with Pastor Clarence Mittleider officiating.
Visitation – One hour before the service at the church.
Burial – Dickey Cemetery, with a reception at the Dickey Hall to follow.
