Lorraine Darlene Schumacher, 89, of Jamestown, ND, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, ND.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 14, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a vigil service to follow at 7:00 PM at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM, Thursday, May 15, 2025 at St. James Basilica with the Very Reverend C.F. Wilhelm, presiding. Interment will be in Highland Home Cemetery.
Lorraine, the daughter of Andrew and Isadora (Prellwitz) Lean, was born on February 1, 1936 in Clifford, ND. She was the fifth of twelve children. She lived on the family farm until they moved to Galesburg where she attended school. She later furthered her education at North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) and graduated in 1958 in Home Economics.
Lorraine married Alvin Schumacher on May 16, 1966 in Steele, ND. They moved to Alvin’s family farm near Robinson, ND. They had four children, Keith, Bonnita, Bonnie and JoAnne. They continued to live and farm there until moving to Jamestown, ND in 2000.
Lorraine spent her retirement years fishing and watching old westerns and the Minnesota Twins with Alvin, gardening, completing numerous puzzles and word searches, spending time with her grandchildren, and taking care of her beloved pets.
In 2012, Alvin passed away. Lorraine continued to live at home and keep up on her hobbies. In 2021, she entered the Ave Maria nursing home in Jamestown. There, she enjoyed joking with the nurses, attending church services, playing bingo, visiting with family, and spending time with her brother, Edward, who was also residing there.
Lorraine is survived by four children, Keith (Michelle) Schumacher of Jamestown, Bonnita (Herb) Dewald of Jamestown, Bonnie Schumacher of Valley City and JoAnne (Kurt) Isakson of Lamoure; five grandchildren, Ashley Schumacher of Jamestown, Kayla (Nathan) Willer of Jamestown, Kyle (Taylor) Schumacher of Ypsilanti, Kade Schumacher of Jamestown and Zachary Isakson of Lamoure; six great-grandchildren, Quinley, Brooklynn and Cameron Willer of Jamestown and Opal, Ava and Jacob Schumacher of Ypsilanti; one sister, June Carlson of Waukesha, WI; and one sister-in-law Ione Lean of Stewart, MN.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Schumacher; her parents, Andrew and Isadora (Prellwitz) Lean; and ten siblings, Eleanor (Frank) Holmen, Alton Lean, Delores (Clifton) Fosberg, Vaida (Reuben) Olson, Lloyd Lean, Lulu (Frank) Kirkelie, Ruth Lean, Carol Lean, Edward Lean, and Gordon Lean (died in infancy).
