Listen to Obituary

Lois Jean Hieb, 97, of Jamestown ND, died April 16, 2026 in the arms of family, passing peacefully into the arms of Jesus. Lois was born September 19, 1928 to George and Nell Fenno in Berlin, North Dakota. She met Fred (Fritz) Hieb in Lamoure, a classic story of love at first sight. Fritz told his family and friends that he was going to marry that beautiful girl and they were married on November 27, 1949, sharing 68 years of love and companionship together. In 1953 they moved to Jamestown, North Dakota, where she spent the next 73 years.

She was active over many years with the Jamestown First Church of the Nazarene, on the local and statewide levels. There she served as a Sunday School teacher, as a regular choir member and frequent soloist, as a youth leader at the district level, and in many other roles, local and state-wide.

In 1969 she followed her passion for teaching and love of children, pursuing a college degree from Jamestown College. Upon graduation she became a first-grade teacher at Lincoln School and served her students and the community there for 19 years. She loved teaching and she loved her students even more. In 2013, she and Fritz received the Distinguished Service Award from the church for their many years of faithful service. Lois was a highly respected teacher in school and at her congregation and is remembered with great fondness by her students to this day. Lois and Fritz felt called to do the Lord’s work, and they fulfilled that sense of responsibility with passion and joy in their hearts.

She is survived by two sons William (Marilu) and Richard (Jean), three grandchildren, Fritz, Lindsey (George Antoniou), and Jonathan (Sarah) Hieb, and 5 grandchildren, Richard, Ayla, Nova, Aria and Aster. She is also survived by two sisters, Joanne Hembree and Carol Worrell (Richard) and two brothers, James (Jane) and David (Dusti) Fenno. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred (Fritz) a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Hieb and Chris Schleicher, a granddaughter, Iva Hieb, one sister Bonita Simmons, and three brothers, Richard, Donald and Gerald Fenno.

Anyone who knew Lois knew how much she loved her family, who, along with her friends, will miss her greatly.
