Lester L. ""Bud"" Thompson, 87, Jamestown, North Dakota died Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at Central Dakota Village in Jamestown.

Lester ""Bud"" was born April 13, 1919 in Woodworth, ND the son of Thomas and Alma (Buskness) Thompson. He attended first grade in Woodworth and then country schools in Woodworth township. Bud farmed in the Woodworth area for several years. On June 21, 1941 Bud married Marie Reider. She died on October 28, 1945. He moved to Woodworth in 1946 where he was employed by Gordon Larson Supply Co. until 1949, when he went into business with his father at Thompson Oil Co. Bud married Irene Bredeson in Harvey, ND on June 27, 1951. In 1968 he became employed by Jenner Koenig at Standard Oil Company as a bulk agent. They moved to Jamestown in 1970 where he went to work for Standard Oil Co. in Jamestown and later as a custodian at Roosevelt Elementary School from where he retired in 1995. He was named ""Custodian of the Year"" in ________.

Bud was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Woodworth, where he served on the parish board. He also served on the town board and was the fire chief when the fire department was organized in 1956 and served as chief until 1970. He was a lifetime member of the ND Firemens Association. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jamestown. He enjoyed hunting, being outdoors and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

Bud is survived by his wife, Irene, Jamestown; four children, Loren Thompson, Pasco, WA, Charles (Lorraine) Thompson, Valley City, ND, Sonja (Rick) Kotzer, Kensal, ND and Rendae (Steve) Flaig, Jamestown; 10 grandchildren; Mike Thompson, Tammy Arline, Les Thompson, Timothy Thompson, Brenda Scott, Amber Flaig, Danielle Flaig, Emma Kotzer, Zachary Flaig and Christopher Kotzer; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Henry (Sally) Thompson, Lakeland, MN and Orville (Verna) Thompson, Jamestown; one sister, Ruth (Willard) Krueger, Fargo, ND; one brother-in-law, James Schlenker, Fargo, ND and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Minda Schlenker, Esther Bredeson and Irene Clark and two brothers, Chester, and Donald in infancy.

Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 16, 2006 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with Rev. Rich Fitzer officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, September 15, 2006 at the Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown.

Burial: Gem Cemetery, Woodworth, North Dakota.
