Leslie Oscar “Les” Lueck was born to Oscar John Lueck and Lilly Esther Leslie on June 23, 1936. He was the youngest of five children raised on a farm in Bloom Township in Stutsman County just northeast of Jamestown. He was the first in his family to be born in a hospital. He attended elementary and middle school in a country schoolhouse in Bloom Township just a half mile from the family farm and then attended Jamestown High School, graduating in 1954. He attended North Dakota State University in Fargo before taking over the farm from his father. In 1957 he married Bethyl Jean Henderson from Erie ND who was a Registered Nurse at the hospital in Jamestown. Together they had two sons, Dean born 1958 and Barry born 1961.

He farmed in Bloom Township until 1999. He served six years in the ND National Guard during the 1960s and was a member of the ND Farm Bureau. He was an active member of the United Presbyterian Church in Jamestown, serving as a deacon and elder, and was a member of the Elks fraternal organization. He spent many winters in Arizona after retiring from farming. He was a strong bridge player, an avid pheasant hunter, and devoted husband and father.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Maxine, Elaine, Phyliss, and Arlene. He is survived by his sons and two granddaughters Anna Lueck and Katherine Lueck.
