Leonhard G. Morlock

Leonhard Gerhard Morlock, 90, Jamestown, ND, died Monday, February 4, 2013 at Eventide at Hi-Acres in Jamestown.

Leonhard was born on the family farm, September 24, 1922, Lake Williams, ND, the son of August and Christina (Landenberger) Morlock. He attended Lake Williams Public School through the eighth grade and graduated from Pettibone High School, Pettibone, ND in 1940.

Leonhard was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church (German Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Iowa) in Tuttle.

After graduation Leonhard attended Luther College, Decorah, Iowa. He returned to Lake Williams and was engaged in farming. Leonhard and June Johnson were married in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Pettibone on June 26, 1947. They owned Gambles Hardware Store in Pettibone, and he later finished a degree in music education and German at Valley City State University. Leonhard taught at Woodworth and Pettibone schools; he was later self-employed. The Morlocks moved to Jamestown in 1986.

He was a member of the Pettibone Volunteer Fire Department and first fire chief, Pettibone school board, town board, church council, Woodworth parish board and Lions Club.

Leonhard enjoyed playing for dances, photography, woodworking, traveling and especially music.

Leonhard is survived by his wife, June, Jamestown; children: LuJane (Leon) Opdahl, West Fargo, ND, Brenda (Les) Trandem, Fargo, ND, David Morlock, Jamestown and Kristen Morlock (Brett Crocker), Richfield, MN; four grandchildren, Lauren (Tobi) Ricker, Lynae Opdahl, John (Lydia) Trandem and Melodie (Don) Pochmara; six great-grandsons; two great-granddaughters; one sister, Anna Wagner, Jamestown; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Clara, Emma, Maria and brother, Albert.
