Leland Patzner, 69, Jamestown, ND passed away Friday, February 28, 2020 at his home after a lengthy battle with heart disease and cancer.
Leland Carl Patzner was born April 18, 1950 in Jamestown, ND to Carl and Esther (Binder) Patzner. He was raised and educated in the Tappen, Woodworth and Pettibone areas. Leland served in the US Army from August 9, 1970 to August 21, 1971. Leland was honorably discharged and received 2 Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart, 2 Commendation Medals, National Defense Medal for Deployed, Sharp Shooter Badge and Expert Badge with Rifle Bar.
He married Judy Hoffman Cox. Leland enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and enjoyed bingo and going to the casino.
On August 13, 2010 Leland married Gail Roberg. Leland was a special person who faced many challenges in his life due to injuries suffered in Vietnam, but never complained. He just lived each day the best he could. Leland loved to go deer hunting with his friends from Ypsilanti before his health would not allow him to participate. He looked forward to this every year to get together with the Kastet boys and to go in “Hot Pursuit” of the deer. He was very fond of Dennis, Duane and Don.
Everyday he gave his two favorite cats “Smokey” and “Bandit” rides around the house in his power wheelchair. When they jumped on his lap, it was time for a ride around the house. The cats loved it as well as Leland did.
Leland loved playing hearts on the computer every day. He played against Elroy and Tim, somehow he always won.
Leland is survived by his wife Gail, Jamestown; three sons and one step son Chris, Dusty, Travis and Mike; three grandchildren Cody, Ashley, Austin; sisters Linda Kapp, Susie Guthmiller and brothers Elroy Patzner, Tim Harriman and Troy Naatus. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters Donna Diede, Sheila Ringuette, Sherry Schmidt and Sandy Capps.
Visitation will be 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM with family receiving friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at Eddy Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, March 5 at Eddy Funeral Home with Pastor Bryce Tahran officiating. Interment will be in Fisher Cemetery, Tappen, ND in the spring.
