Laura Jean Hochhalter, 82, Jamestown, formerly of Woodworth, went to be with her Lord on Monday, June 12, 2017
Jean was born January 15, 1935, the daughter of Fred and Agnes (Liberda) Koenig, on a farm near Woodworth. She was educated in Woodworth and on October 29, 1950 she was joined in marriage to Lawrence Hochhalter. While her husband served in the Korean War, Jean worked various jobs for area families. Once he returned they farmed and raised livestock near Woodworth until their retirement, where they also raised their family. Lawrence passed away in 2002, and Jean moved to Jamestown the following year.
Jean was never intimidated by hard work. She farmed the land and tended to the livestock from sun up to sun down, while still having home-cooked, hot meals ready with a cake or pie. She was infamously known for her strudel, cheese buttons, and fresh baked goods. She loved gardening, canning, and especially playing pinochle with her family and friends. Jean was a member of Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, American Legion Auxiliary, and Concordia Lutheran Church.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Bea Barker of Anchorage, AK; sons Terry (Bonnie), Leon (Sonya), Kerry (Sherri), all of Jamestown, and Don (Andrea) of Lake Park, MN. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren Wes Barker, Brooke Nelson, Justin, Eric, Blake, Brock, Emma and Aliza Hochhalter. Great-grandchildren Harper, Xavier, Ana and Everly, and three more babies to join the family soon. Sisters Shirley (Gene) Wolff, Leona (Edgar) Leapaldt, brother Jim (Lorraine) Koenig and sister-in-law, Liz Koenig.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Robert and Roger, and son-in-law Kent Barker.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 16 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Eddy Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, June 17 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Jamestown. Burial to follow at Gem Cemetery, Woodworth, ND.
