Lawrence A. Radtke, 93, Jamestown, North Dakota died Monday, April 25, 2005 at Jamestown Hospital.
Lawrence ""Larry"" Radtke was born March 8, 1912 on a farm near Urbana, North Dakota the son of Adolph and Beatrice (Dolan) Radtke. He received his education at a country school near Urbana. He worked for area farmers until he entered the US Army on April 13, 1942 in Des Moines, Iowa. He served his country in the European African Middle Eastern Theater. He was discharged on September 20, 1945. Larry married Erna Kurtz on August 19, 1945 in Jamestown. They lived in Valley City where he worked as a mechanic for Duffy Motors. In January 1966 they moved to Washington where Larry was employed as a leadman for the Seattle Door Co. in Kirkland, WA. He retired in 1976. He worked as custodian of Trinity Lutheran Church in Kirkland. They returned to Jamestown in 1996.
Larry was a life member of the VFW. He enjoyed mechanics and gardening.
Larry is survived by his wife, Erna of Valley City, ND, one son, Paul Radtke, Jamestown and two daughters, Barbara Radtke, Jamestown and Vicki (Fred) Rohn, Coeur d' Alene, ID, one brother, Henry Radtke, Polsbo, WA and two sisters, Bernyce Bartz, Minneapolis, MN and Janet (Kent) Long, Washington.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Francis, Robert, Ray, William and Adolph.
Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Saturday, April 30, 2005 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown with Pastor Dennis Ellingsen officiating.
Visitation: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Friday, April 29, 2005 at the Eddy Funeral Home.
Burial: North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, North Dakota.
