Lawrence “Larry” James Marsalek, 79, of Jamestown, North Dakota, passed away Tuesday August 25, 2026, at Jamestown Regional Medical Center.
Larry was born April 13, 1947, in Jamestown, North Dakota to Paul and Josephine Sophie Mary (Antonwitch) Marsalek. He received his education in Courtenay, North Dakota. Throughout his life, Larry worked for Melands, Tenefos Construction, Glen Mac, Western Gear, the Stutsman County Road Department, Jamestown City Transit, and Wilhelm’s.
Larry married Donna Guthmiller on July 15, 1967. Family was always at the heart of Larry’s life. He was a wonderful dad and, without a doubt, the best grandpa there was. He treasured the time he spent with his children and grandchildren and loved nothing more than having his family together.
Larry had a funny, prankster and silly personality and a way of making people laugh. He enjoyed good food, good company, and simply being surrounded by the people he loved. His sense of humor and larger-than-life personality brought plenty of laughter and memorable moments to family gatherings and time spent with friends.
Larry lived an adventurous life and had many passions. He participated in demolition derbies and car racing and even owned a bar in Kensal, North Dakota. He was a president and longtime member of the Dakota Anglers and lived for fishing and hunting. Larry also enjoyed playing darts and pool and served as President and member of the Jamestown Men’s Pool Association. Whether he was outdoors fishing and hunting, competing in a derby, playing pool, or enjoying a meal and a few laughs with family and friends, Larry knew how to enjoy life.
He is survived by his loving wife, Donna Marsalek; children, Brian Marsalek, Chad Marsalek, and Jessica (Dave) Marsalek-Sahr; his grandchildren, Lexi, Huntyr (Taylor), Trekkyr, Mark, Bodi, Lyndan, Jordin, and Jace; his brothers, Paul (Vickie) Marsalek and Steve (Sheila) Marsalek, both of Jamestown; his sister, Terry (Don) Perekovich of San Antonio, Texas; brothers-in-law, Mike (Linda) Guthmiller and Neil (Linda) Guthmiller; sisters-in-law, Pam (Kenny) McLain and Candace (Kevin Metzger) Guthmiller; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by his best friend of many years, Tom Schutt.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Josephine and Paul Marsalek, Sr.; parents in- law, Harold and Verna Guthmiller; his beloved son, Aaron Lawrence Marsalek; and his sister, Cindy Stampka.
Larry will be remembered for his big heart, silly sense of humor, love of family, and zest for life. He made people laugh, loved a good meal and even better company, and created countless memories with the people around him. Above all, Larry loved his family and took great pride in being a dad and grandpa. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
