Keith Hovland

Keith Hovland, 81, Wimbledon, North Dakota passed away Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Eventide Jamestown. Keith Hovland was born August 16, 1935 at home in Ada, MN to Adolph and Zella (DeWitt) Hovland. He grew up in Ada and graduated from Ada High School in 1953.

Keith worked one year for farmers than joined the Army in 1954. He was honorably discharged in 1956. After the Army he worked various jobs. On March 15, 1958 he married Wanda Hanson from Mahnomen, MN. April 1st they moved to Finley, ND where Keith worked for Great Plains Supply Co., a lumber company. He became manager in 1967. While in Finley they had three sons. In July of 1969 Keith moved to Wimbledon, ND where he became manager of Farmer’s Union Oil Co. Wanda and the boys joined him in August.

They moved to Beach, ND in 1974 for one year before returning to Wimbledon and Farmers Union in 1975. During his time as manager he had the honor of filling one unexpected term and one full term of his own as the Chairman of the Statewide Farmer’s Union Oil Co., Managers Assn. In 1981 he left Farmer’s Union and worked for Harvest States Elevator in Courtenay, ND retiring on December 31, 2003.

Keith loved pheasant hunting and deer hunting with his friends. He lost the love of his life “Wanda” on April 14, 2016.

Keith is survived by his son Tom (Patty), Valley City, ND, son Terry (Laura) Wimbledon, ND; five grandchildren, Derek (Mindy) Hovland, Jamestown, Jessica (Jeff) Swanson, Aberdeen, SD, Tanner Hovland, Valley City, ND, Brittani Hovland, Fargo, ND, Tessa Hovland, Jamestown, ND; two great grandchildren, Trevon and Kason Hovland, Jamestown, ND; two step-grandchildren, Michael Carpenter, Moorhead, MN, Chris Carpenter (Allie), Wimbledon, ND; two grand stepdaughters, Matesi and Marleigh Carpenter; one ex daughter-in-law, Anne Hovland. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one son Timothy, four brothers and sisters.

A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM, Thursday, July 6 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Wimbledon, ND. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Friday, July 7 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Wimbledon. Burial will be in Prairie View Cemetery, Wimbledon, ND.
