Joyce Speelmon

Joyce Aileen Speelmon (Folkestad), aged 72, formerly of Williston, passed away on February 7th, 2026 in Jamestown, ND.

Joyce was born on September 6th, 1953, in Williston, ND. She was the fifth child of eight to Ray and Adeline (Bakke) Folkestad. Joyce attended Billings West High from 1967-1969, running track before moving from Montana to Williston at the end of 1969. She graduated from Williston High School in 1971. Joyce had her only child, Christopher John Speelmon, on April 15th, 1970.

She married Richard Daniel Speelmon on January 26th, 1974, after having met during a Folkestad family dinner. They lived in Williston together from 1974 until the early 2000s, where they lived on a farm in Kenmare. While in Williston, Dan and Joyce owned Speelmon Diesel, a mechanic shop with Dan as a diesel mechanic and Joyce working on basic tasks. She also worked at Williston Floral for many years where she experienced the enjoyment of delivering flowers to nursing home residents.

Her hobbies included bowling, pinochle and racing. Bowling took her on many trips across the country and pinochle was a standard weekday occasion. Racing was a way of life for her and her husband Dan. It took them to short tracks in North Dakota, Minnesota, Montana, Wyoming and Canada. The Daytona 500 was considered a holiday and included a gathering of family and friends.

She was involved in in Ladies Petroleum, a social organization of women working in the oil industry, where she helped raise money for nonprofits and was a Women of the Moose member taking part in a variety of charity events and socializing.

Her enjoyment was being around family and friends. Whether that be with her sisters, cousins, nieces, nephews or the Speelmon family. Family was everything.

Joyce is survived by her son and his family, Chris, Shelly, and their two kids, Chase and McKenna Speelmon; her sisters, Diane Smith, Dar Jung, Ruth Folkestad, and Raelene Schuh; numerous nieces and nephews and the Speelmon family. She is preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Dan Speelmon; parents, Ray and Adeline Folkestad; sister, Bonnie; brothers, Wayne and Gary; in-laws, Kenny and Harriet Speelmon, Frankie Davis, Philip Jung, Harvey Schuh and David Halvorsen.

Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 14, 2026 at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, ND with Pastor Bryce Tahran officiating.
