John Dardis, 60, Jamestown, ND, died Friday, September 19, 2008 at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown, ND after a courageous battle with cancer. John Dardis was born May 5, 1948 in Fargo, ND, and adopted by Hank and Jean (Dinehart) Dardis of Jamestown, ND as an infant. He was raised in Jamestown and attended St. John's Academy and then Jamestown High School graduating in 1966. He attended North Dakota State University, Fargo, ND. After college served in the United States Army and was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany from 1968 to 1971. In 1971, he returned to Jamestown and joined his father in the real estate business. On July 7, 1973, he married Patricia O'Brien in Jamestown. He purchased Dardis Realty from his father in 1984. As the owner of Dardis Realty, he was a licensed realtor, broker and appraiser. He was well respected as an expert in the field. He held every office in the North Dakota Association of Realtors including president in 1979. John served on the North Dakota Real Estate Commission from 1981 to 1990. John was well known as an avid sportsman who enjoyed numerous hunting trips around the world and recently received recognition by being awarded the International Grand Slam for Wild Sheep Award. His latest hunting expedition to Africa with his son, accomplished a lifelong dream. John was an active member of St. James Basilica. He was a member of the Eagles, Elks, American Legion and Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the North American Hunting Club, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Foundation for North American Wild Sheep, Ducks Unlimited and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. John placed the safety and well being of others in front of his own and thus was loved and admired by all who knew him, especially his family. During his recent illness, he put forth the ultimate fight with strength, faith and an admirable attitude. John taught us all how life should be lived and to enjoy what we have each and every day. Survivors include his wife, Patricia, Jamestown, ND; a son, Tim Dardis (John II) Seattle, WA; a daughter, Megan Dardis, Jamestown, ND; a brother, Tom (Wanda) Dardis, Columbus, OH; two sisters-in-law: Linda (John) Lyche, Onalaska, WI; Cyndy (Jay) Nimens, Crookston, MN and nine nieces and nephews.
Funeral - 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 22, 2008 at St. James Basilica, Jamestown, ND Prayer Service - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, September 21, 2008 at St. James Basilica, Jamestown, ND
Visitation - noon to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, September 21, 2008 at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, ND and 1 hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
Interment - Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown, ND. Memorials - may be directed to The Manor St. Joseph, Edgeley, ND; St. James Basilica; Jamestown Hospital Hospice or personal preference.
