Joan Van Asperen

Joan Van Asperen, 90, Clive, IA formerly of Ypsilanti, ND passed away Friday, March 20, 2026 at her home.

Joan was born December 22, 1935 in Wagner, SD the daughter of Jack and Bessie (Hennies) Mattis. She grew up and attended school in Wagner, SD. She married Donald Van Asperen on May 12, 1956 in Wagner, SD.

Joan is survived by two sons: Randall (Christie) Underwood, ND and Steven (Laura), Ypsilanti, ND; two daughters, Donna Van Asperen, Pahrump, NV and Twila Asperen (Jim), Clive, IA: her sister Elaine Beaman; brother Richard Buus; 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers Jack Mattis, Rapid City, SD, Gary Mattis, Lee’s Summit, MO, Gordon Mattis, Cheyenne, WY and two nephews, Wayne Beaman, Independence, MO and Brian Mattis, Shawnee Mission, KS.

A private family graveside service will be scheduled at a later date.
