Iris Benson

Iris June Benson, 76, Jamestown, North Dakota was taken to her Lord after a long battle with cancer on Monday, April 10, 2006 at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home in Jamestown.

Iris Buetow was born June 21, 1929 in Jamestown, the daughter of Adolph and Lydia (Ludwig) Buetow. She graduated from Jamestown High School in 1947. Iris lived in Huntington Beach, CA for two years. She returned to North Dakota and attended Valley City Teachers College for two years. She taught in Stutsman and Kidder Counties. Iris married Arnold G. Benson on November 17, 1956 in Jamestown. They lived in Windsor before moving to Jamestown in 1968. She worked at the Jamestown Sun office and St. John's Lutheran Church. Arnold died on November 26, 1985.

Iris was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the Morning Circle. She taught Sunday school and Bible school for 23 years.

Iris enjoyed reading, Bible study, watching plays and watching her grandchildren play sports.

Iris is survived by her four children: Cindy Norton, Fargo, ND; James Benson, Jamestown; Shelly (Randy) Naze, Adrian, ND and Melissa (Randy) Schumacher, Jamestown, nine grandchildren: Jesse (Debra) Naze, Emily (Jake) Greenstein, Kelsey Naze, Nick Benson, Taylor Benson, Brittany (Derik) Bartelson, Caitlin Norton, Lacey Schumacher and Dylan Schumacher, three great-grandchildren: Parker, Alexis and Haylie Bartelson, one sister, Verlyn (Burton) Benson, Jamestown and one brother, Maylen (Joyce) Buetow, Rapid City, SD.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and two brothers, Glenn and Stanley.

Funeral Service: 10:00 AM, Thursday, April 13, 2006 at St. John's Lutheran Church with Pastor Doug Opp officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at the Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Prayer Service: 7:30 PM, Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel.

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, North Dakota.
